Thomas and Friends: Teaching Skills and Values

Thomas and Friends is actually one of those kids' shows that I can stand. The song is catchy and while the plots are a tad slow for my adult tastes, my 3 and 4 year old sons just love them. Trains are just a natural part of life for little boys, it seems! They're attracted to them from birth!

These Thomas and Friends wooden train sets are excellent for building coordination in little fingers and kids have to work to get those tracks laid out in the right pattern. It's very similar to a puzzle, but less irritating for the child who is not into puzzles, but obsessed with Thomas. The show teaches a lot of different values, sharing, teamwork and modesty, but the real skills come into play with the toys.

My sons work hard with their friends to build the perfect track that spits and goes around houses, over imaginary streams and criss crosses here and there. They put more time into building the tracks than they do actually playing with them, I think. This is an excellent way to go if your little guy loves Thomas and Friends and is eager to play trains.

So much fun to be had!
