Kelty Parthenon 4 person tent
OK...maybe three people with a ton of stuff.....or....
The possibilities are endless when talking about Kelty Tents. But for right now, let's start with the Parthenon 4 Person Tent. This particular tent is very roomy - I'm talking 61 square feet of floor space! It's also quite a simple tent to set up. When setting it up you can choose to stake it down, or use it as free standing. I almost always stake down a tent of this size, as you never know what the weather is going to do. On a summer camp out or hike though, you may feel different. There's a simple reason for staking down a tent of this size..........wind. Unless you want to chase your tent, stake it down or even guy it out.
However, on the plus side for not staking the tent down? The ease of cleaning a tent that is not staked is simple. You just pick the thing up and shake it out. You know, shake out the debris we all manage to track in? When you're done, set it back down again.
With the Parthenon being rated as a 3 season tent, it's perfect for Spring, Summer and Fall camping. It is not designed for heavy snow though. To camp in heavy snow you will need a canvas tent or an additional cover that can be supported and guyed out for protection. I will talk more about that in another lens.
This Kelty tent is very lightweight and easy to carry. It only weighs 20 lbs. That's pretty good for a 3 season tent that can sleep 4 people comfortably. It's small and light enough to pack in the RV for those weekend getaways. Set up, like I said, is simple and the double track door, unzips to form an awning when sitting outside. A really great choice for the family.
Well the awning is a cool feature anyway. ( Read on for more about the "awning.")
Some of the features of the Kelty Tents
What sets the Parthenon tent apart from another?
Some of the features in the construction of these Kelty Tents, really make a difference. The first is that the Parthenon is constructed of flame retardant materials, but you should always exercise caution around heat and flame anyway. No cooking in the tent as an example. Secondly, the tent walls are made up of 68D Polyester, 1800 MM, with 75D polyester on the fly. The seams require no perimeter sealing, but if you wish to add you own, doing so simply adds to the weather proof ability of their tents. You should however seal all places where things have been sewn to the tent, such as zipper tracks. Another example would be pole inserts for supporting your tent. A quick spray with water repellant all around that would be great. Also, spray the outside of the tent, where the ever handy, 'inside' tent pockets are sewn.
All Kelty tents are manufactured and treated as water repellant tents. Any extra sealing you decide to do, is simply "added Protection". If you want to, buy some waterproof spray sealant and spray the loops sewn on the outside of the ten that are used for the poles. Most often, they are not (the seams) waterproofed. Just a point I make.
Another benefit of the Kelty tents are that they come with noiseless zipper pulls. This is a plus if the person you are sharing the tent with is an early riser or light sleeper. You should also know that all of the mesh panels (for easy ventilation) are closeable and there are internal storage pockets built in. The tent walls are all water tight walls.
From the back country to base camp, the beach to the backyard, Kelty tents provide a variety of features, uses and of course, quality construction throughout.

Best reasons for owning a Kelty Tent
On a recent camping trip to a little known campground near the tiny North Central town of Spray, Oregon, our campsite faced the afternoon sun. I had placed our tent near the back of the campsite, to be near the trees for shade and to allow for a roomier campsite.
On this day however, (our campsite was one of the few with a minimal number of trees) I solved the problem, by just unzipping the double track door and lifted it to form an awning for my wife. She had been relaxing with her favorite book until the sun came over the trees. All it took, was two pieces of cotton line and I was in business, tying the awning up and to a couple of nearby trees made for a shady spot for my wife to continue reading.
It worked perfectly.............and I was the hero.
